2-Day Galle to Yala Safari Adventure

Discover the diverse landscapes and wildlife of Sri Lanka on a two-day journey from Colombo to Yala. Visit the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Centre and learn about efforts to protect Sri Lanka’s sea turtles, cruise through the tranquil mangrove waterways of Madu Ganga, and explore the historic Galle Fort. The journey culminates with a half-day Jeep safari in Yala National Park, offering the chance to encounter elephants, leopards, crocodiles, and a wealth of birdlife before returning to Colombo.

Kosgoda: A coastal village renowned for its long association with sea turtle conservation. Its sandy beaches provide important nesting grounds for several species of sea turtles, making the area an important centre for marine conservation along Sri Lanka’s southern coast.

Madu Ganga: One of Sri Lanka’s most beautiful wetland ecosystems, Madu Ganga is a tranquil network of waterways, mangrove forests, and small islands near Balapitiya. 

Yala National Park: One of Sri Lanka’s most celebrated wildlife destinations, Yala combines diverse habitats with a spectacular setting along the island’s south-eastern coast. 

Día 1: COLOMBO – KOSGODA – BALAPITIYA – GALLE – PALATUPANA (300km – 6hrs)

After an early pickup from your hotel in Colombo at around 7:00 am, begin your journey south towards Palatupana. 

Our first stop is the Kosgoda Sea Turtle Conservation Centre. Discover Sri Lanka’s dedicated efforts to protect its precious sea turtles during a visit to this local conservation centre. Learn about the fascinating life cycle of sea turtles, from nesting and hatching to their journey into the ocean, and gain an insight into the conservation initiatives undertaken to safeguard these remarkable marine creatures.

Continue to Balapitiya, where you will enjoy a relaxing boat ride through the beautiful Madu Ganga wetlands, one of Sri Lanka’s most scenic coastal ecosystems. Cruise peacefully along tranquil waterways surrounded by lush mangroves, small islands, and tropical vegetation while discovering the area’s rich biodiversity. Along the way, you may encounter water monitors, colourful birds, fish, and other wildlife inhabiting the riverbanks. The boat ride also provides an opportunity to experience the traditional lifestyle of local communities and, depending on the route, visit one of the small islands scattered along the river.

Continue to Galle, a historic coastal city and UNESCO World Heritage destination renowned for its beautifully preserved colonial architecture and fascinating maritime heritage. Enjoy a leisurely walk through the iconic Galle Fort, originally built by the Portuguese and later expanded by the Dutch. Wander along its atmospheric cobblestone streets and discover historic buildings, old churches, colonial houses, boutique shops, cafés, and the famous fort ramparts overlooking the Indian Ocean. Your guide will share fascinating stories of Galle’s rich history, cultural influences, and local way of life.

Continue your journey to Palatupana and proceed to the hotel for dinner.

Día 2: PALATUPANA – YALA NATIONAL PARK – COLOMBO (240km – 4hrs)

Collect your packed breakfast from the hotel. Check out and proceed to Yala National Park for a half-day Jeep safari. Covering approximately 1,259 sq. km, Yala National Park is the largest national park in Sri Lanka. Located in the south-eastern corner of the island, the park is particularly renowned for its scenic ocean frontage and remarkable diversity of wildlife. During your safari, keep an eye out for wild elephants, wild boars, wild buffaloes, leopards, bears, deer, and crocodiles. The park is also home to a remarkable variety of birdlife, with large flocks of both migratory and indigenous birds inhabiting its diverse ecosystems.

After the safari, return to the hotel and enjoy lunch before continuing your journey back to Colombo.
